"For an otherwise healthy baby to die undelivered near term is, with hindsight, an easily avoidable event. Research to make it avoidable in practice is a priority." - Professor Jim Thornton, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology

For a new parent, preparing to take your baby home for the first time is an exciting and nerve-wracking experience. You are looking forward to late nights with little sleep, midnight feeds and bonding with your newborn; the life you've been excited to meet for the last nine months. But unfortunately there are families in the UK, 15 families per day to be precise, who lose their baby before or during birth. Even knowing these statistics, it is upsetting to think that there is a lack of bereavement rooms in hospitals for families to privately deal with their grief.

This is why neonatal death is an important topic to be discussed. People believe if we ignore the problem then perhaps it will go away, where instead we should be focusing on funding research and asking questions, ensuring that every family can take their baby home with them.

Still Born is a student made documentary, created and produced by third year students at University of Westminster. This documentary came about due to an individual story of loss that will be shared with time. We as a team want to tell this story and raise awareness of stillbirths in the UK and how research can help to prevent this. This week from October 9th - October 15th is Baby Loss Awareness Week, an opportunity to unite a community of bereaved families and for everyone to get involved in keeping the conversation about baby loss going. This year is focusing on the care for families who are affected by this issue.

Throughout the week we will be posting about events taking place this week and this site will keep you up to date with how the documentary is progressing, with behind the scenes looks and sneak peaks of the project.
